“Memory and Craftsmanship” is a book centered on mud dyeing, this project explores traditional craftsmanship, cultural emotion, and connections to the land through the diverse colors and properties of Taiwan’s soils, introducing this unique technique to a wider audience. The book is divided into five chapters—Gray, Indigo, Vermilion, Persimmon, and Brown—each representing a different perspective: the memories of veteran artisans, the inheritance of techniques, pattern design, cultural and creative opportunities, and the spirit of craftsmanship. Enriched with detailed illustrations, it highlights the unique charm of mud dyeing. Each chapter includes fabric and soil color samples to provide a multisensory experience through both sight and touch. The book cover is made from hand-dyed mud fabric, preserving its natural wrinkles and tie-dye textures, making this work an approachable and intimate introduction to the world of mud dyeing.
